Mature Cheddar & Caramelised Onion Skinny Tarts


We absolutely cannot get enough of these little tarts, with only 3% fat they will be extremely sought after at the Christmas table.

Serve them up as little canapés or appetisers for friends and family coming throughout the holidays, it’s guaranteed to be an all-time favourite! Quick and easy to prepare you’ll be making these sumptuous little tarts all year round!

For the tarts:

  • 270g red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • 90g filo pastry
  • 180g egg white
  • A pinch of salt and pepper
  • 90g light cheddar, grated
  • 90ml skim milk


Step 1:

First make the caramelised onions by spray a large frying pan with cooking spray and fry the onion slices, adding the sugar about halfway through.

Step 2:

Preheat the oven to 170°c, and make the filling by mixing together the egg, onion and cheddar and set aside.

Step 3:

Layer filo into tartlet tins, spraying each layer with light cooking spray. Fill the tartlet’s delicate filo layers with the eggy, cheesy mix.

Step 4:

Bake at 170°c for 30 mins. These tasty tarts can be enjoyed hot or cold.
