Our Story

Baking lighter, feel-good cakes so you can enjoy something sweet any day of the week.

Lighter bakes. Familiar comforts. Made for real life.

At Mariella’s, we believe sweet treats should make you feel good, not weighed down. Our bakes are made for the moments when you want something comforting and delicious, but still light enough to fit into a balanced lifestyle. No fuss, no guilt, no complicated rules. Just clever, comforting recipes with a gentler touch.

Founded by Mariella Heyn, this little bakery began as a kitchen-table experiment: could the classics we all love, like crumbles, traybakes and soft sponges, be made lighter without losing what makes them special?
The answer was yes.

What started as personal curiosity has grown into a much-loved collection of lighter comfort bakes enjoyed across the UK. These are treats designed for real life, for people who want something sweet and satisfying, usually just for themselves, and something that fits naturally into their day.

Today, Mariella’s is a home for reimagined favourites: bakes full of flavour, often packed with fruit or whole ingredients, with smart swaps and sugar alternatives used where they make sense. Always comforting, always satisfying, simply lighter.

A Note From Mariella

Hello, I'm Mariella. I'm a mum of two, a lifelong dessert lover, and the person behind every recipe here.

Baking has been part of my life since childhood. Growing up, the kitchen was where everything happened: crumbles, baked apples, the kind of simple food that just made sense. That's still what I come back to.

Over time I started making our family favourites lighter. Not because I wanted to eat less, but because I wanted to feel better about eating more. I avoid dairy, so a lot of my baking is naturally dairy-free without making a big deal of it. No substitutes that taste like compromises, just recipes that happen to work without it.

That's really the whole idea. Bakes that feel familiar and indulgent, made a bit more thoughtfully. Less heavy, no guilt, nothing joyless. Just proper treats that fit around real life.

If that sounds like your kind of eating, you're in the right place.
