Apple Crumble

Lighter Apple Crumble

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about this warm, humble dessert. It takes me right back to being ten years old – cosy kitchens, cloudy windows, and that sweet cinnamon-apple smell drifting through the house. Packed full of fruit and gently spiced, it’s exactly what we crave as the days draw in.

Ingredients

For the filling:
1 kg Bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 1 cm pieces
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp fructose

For the crumble:
100 g flour
50 g jumbo oats
60 g fructose
50 g cold butter
50 g apple sauce

Method

Step 1:
Toss the sliced apples with the cinnamon and fructose until everything is lightly coated and fragrant.

Step 2:
Place all of the crumble ingredients in a chopper and pulse until you have a rustic breadcrumb texture.

Step 3:
Layer the apples neatly into a 20 cm baking tin. Let the slices overlap slightly. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the top and press down gently to form a light seal.
Bake at 180°C for 35-40 minutes, until the crumble is golden and the apples underneath are soft and bubbling.

P.S. Top tip: Serve piping hot with vanilla ice cream or a jug of homemade custard.
